Getting enough Vitamin B12 as a part of our nutritional intake is vital in order to stay healthy. However, because B12 deficiency is often perceived as directly associated with a vegetarian or vegan diet, studies have identified that there are other reasons that lead to low levels of B12, and approximately 40% of people in the United States have a deficiency of this nutrient.

As we age, it may become more difficult for the body to properly absorb the vitamin; this can also be the case for those who have other conditions, have gone through certain surgeries, or take certain medications for extended periods of time. No matter the reason for lacking vitamin B12, taking the right supplement is a must for maintaining optimal health.

Since the body doesn’t make vitamin B12, it needs to get it from animal-based foods or from supplements. Vitamin B12 intake must occur on a regular basis because the body doesn’t store vitamin B12 for a long time.

Methylcobalamin works by uniquely supporting the body to ensure adequate levels of adenosylcobalamin. Methylcobalamin is the most active form of vitamin B12; high doses have been shown to promote nervous system health, and provide nutritional support for the brain and nervous system.

Methylcobalamin may also help normalize sleep-wake cycles, providing a better quality sleep for some. There are several forms of vitamin B12, cyanocobalamin being the most common form found in supplements. Once absorbed, cyanocobalamin is converted into hydroxocobalamin, then into adenosylcobalamin (the body’s storage form of B12 and one of its active coenzyme forms), and then possibly methylcobalamin (the other active coenzyme form of B12).

AOR’s Methylcobalamin provides the most bioavailable, high-dose form of vitamin B12 in a convenient, pleasant-tasting lozenge.
