Senna leaf is primarily used as a natural laxative and to reduce occasional constipation. When its active compounds (called sennosides) are activated in the colon by bacterial enzymes, the resulting fluid secretion facilitates bowel movements.1 It’s important to use Senna on a short-term basis and not exceed recommended doses. Overuse can cause discomfort, cramps or diarrhea.
