| Colon Cleanse Herbal Formula | Most herbal blends are comprised of what might be called dominant,
more active plants that are usually responsible for primary therapeutic
actions. These are combined with more passive herbs that serve to
soothe, support and potentiate. Stimulatory herbs are usually of the
bitter variety and are very nicely complemented by aromatic,
carminative and demulcent herbs. For example, senna is a stimulatory
herb which initiates colon muscle contraction. Adding ginger, a
carminative, to senna soothes the stomach and prevents gripping which
may occur if senna was taken alone. The addition of capsicum to any
herb formula acts as a catalyst, increasing the efficiency of each
individual herb. |
| Fasting | Fasting may seem like a rather drastic measure to take to help the
body rid itself of toxic substances, yet it is considered a safe and very
effective method. The idea of fasting is based on the belief that
abstaining from food affords the body a chance to rest from the work
of digestion, assimilation and elimination. Instead of having to spend
energy on these processes, the body can concentrate on flushing out
toxins and other harmful substances that accumulate over time. It is
always a good idea to make your doctor or other health care
professional aware that you are fasting. If you have any kind of a
serious condition, such as diabetes, hypoglycemia, or if you take any
medication, make sure to check with your physician before you begin a
fast.
Advocates of fasting suggest that we make it a regular monthly event
and usually suggest a fast of one to three days. Also, if you feel
yourself becoming ill, it helps to stop eating solid food. When you fast,
remember that supplementation and the use of good, nutritious food
after the fast is completed will extend its therapeutic benefits.

| There are several different types of fasts. Juice fasts consist of eating
nothing but freshly squeezed or extracted fruit and vegetable juices.
Green drink fasts utilize spirulina, chlorophyll and other green food
supplements. Drink only pure water or diluted juices with no added
sweeteners. Stay away from citrus juices. Cabbage, beet, carrot,
celery, grape, and apple juice are recommended. Raw cabbage juice is
good for ulcers, cancer, and colon problems.
Using herb teas while fasting can also be effective. Pau darco and
echinacea herb teas help to boost immunity. Dandelion, red clover,
alfalfa, and chamomile teas detoxify the blood and settle the stomach.
Vegetable broths are also good. Liquid mineral supplements or garlic
extracts can also promote healing. Continue to take your vitamin and
mineral supplements while fasting. Dont chew gum. It will only serve to
stimulate gastric juices, making the fast uncomfortable. |
